One of the biggest issue with Intune from the beginning of modern management with the MDM stack on Windows 10 – has been software inventory. Many companies has a CMDB where they love to put in software inventory for different reasons there has been no good way other then installing a asset management solutions with agent on all deployed devices.
Looking at the Discovered apps on the device object in Intune – there is starting to show up Windows 32 apps – at first my thoughts was it was the applications installed with the Win32 app model in Intune – but I see apps that are installed manual on the device.
Intune management extension need to be installed on the device to get the win32 application inventoried, so you need to install at least one win32 app or run a powershell script from Intune on your devices.
The inventory part is a feature that is released with version 1901.
If you look at the registry on the device:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\IntuneManagementExtension\Policies\
You see under the application GUID with a minimal sets of information.
This is a long needed feature that have great potentials for customers that are running Intune managed devices with out any other inventory agent on.
1901 vesion of what? Intune? Or do you mean 1903 upcoming version of Windows 10?

Hi Per,
So I have deployed several scripts to my intune devices and can confirm that the Intune management ext is installed. However I still dont see apps that are not pushed via intune. Does this work to see apps installed manually on the machine. For example I had installed notepad++ on my machine. Do you think I will be able to see that in Intune for my machine. I can see the apps that are MS related, but nothing else.
We’re on Intune version 1901 but the feature isn’t available. Do you have any further information? There is also a user voice regarding this topic https://microsoftintune.uservoice.com/forums/291681-ideas/suggestions/8416476-inventory-of-all-installed-software-not-just-the (description is about mobile apps but many users ask for Windows 10 in the comment section). Which sidecar version is installed on your clients? The registry keys “Inventories” and “InventoryTenant” are not available on our clients.
This feature seem to be active right now in our demo Azure tenant and Intune service release is 1904. I can find for example “ConfigMgr 2012 Toolkit R2” under Discovered apps page.
Hi Per,
Meanwhile we can see Win32 application but some do not show up, e.g. Visual Studio Code and WinSCP, even not in the registry. Can you confirm this?
Cheers, Dieter
I will recommend you to open a service request in Intune for this one – so it can be tracked. It is free to create service request in Intune
Is this only for co-managed devices? Or should this feature be available for cloud only devices as well?
